Bruno tells Haye to KO Klitschko

Haye goes away from home to put up his WBA crown against the Ukrainian’s WBO, IBF and IBO titles in front of what will be a pro-Klitschko crowd in Hamburg, Germany on July 2.

If ‘the Hayemaker’ does the business, Wladimir’s older Vitali, the WBC title holder, will be the only one left to dispute that Haye is the king of the heavyweight division.

Bruno, the former WBC champion, twice went into the Lions Den during his career to fight for world titles against Mike Tyson, first as challenger in 1989 and then as champion in 1996.

Each time, Bruno gave up home advantage to ‘Iron’ Mike under the bright lights of the Hilton Hotel and then the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

On both occasions, Bruno was stopped, in three and then five rounds respectively, but felt he had go out swinging with a ‘you go or I go’ strategy.

And one of Britain’s most loved heavyweights, who turns 50 this year, believes Haye will have to adopt the same tactics and take the decision out of the judges’ hands next month.

Bruno said: “I wish David all of the very best and I hope he does it, he’s today’s heavyweight and you have got to respect that.

“If he’s going to go to this guy’s home territory, he’s going to have to knock him out but he’s definitely got the skills to do it.

“It will take a good guy to beat Klitschko but Haye has got the freshness, the youth and the hunger to beat him.

“If luck’s also on his side, you never know what can happen.”

Bruno was talking from a sportsman’s dinner at the Holiday Inn hotel in Queensway, Birmingham, on Saturday night.
